New QB Rumor

The first rumor of the season concerning a new QB coming to Cleveland was that of Matt Hasselbeck. The rumor came in conjunction with the hiring of Mike Holgrem, and the belief that Holgrem will want to change the offensive philosophy to a West Coast style, or a variant thereof.

This rumor carries a little weight, considering Holgrem coached Hasselbeck in Seattle, and according to news sources in Seattle that there is a real possibility of Hasselbeck getting traded or cut either this off-season, or latest after the 2010 season.

Now that Philadelphia GM, Tom Heckert has been hired to do the same job in Cleveland, new rumors are starting to surface on the web.

Some rather interesting ones at that......

The newest rumor is that now Michael Vick is in Philadelphia and is possible heir apparent to Donovan McNabb, that Tom Heckert will try to bring 3rd year QB Kevin Kolb with him to Cleveland.

I too raised an eyebrow when I read these little tidbits.....

One was at the end of an article by Patrick McManamon for the Beacon Journal.

He wrote:

"If Heckert joins the Browns, it might just follow that Kevin Kolb might as well. Kolb is the backup quarterback to Donovan McNabb, and in the two games he played last season when McNabb was hurt, Kolb threw for 398 and 321 yards.

He's from Houston, and he's been in the league three years. He also was a high draft choice of Any Reid, so prying him loose from the Eagles might take the Browns' second-round draft pick.

There also is a lot of thinking, though, that McNabb might be the quarterback the Eagles decide to trade."

Mike Sielski over at PhillyBurbs.com thought the same thing:

"(Heckert) Desperate to get to a franchise where he has final say-so over personnel decisions, he interviewed Wednesday for the Cleveland Browns' GM job. In fact, he was the first candidate to meet with Mike Holmgren - the Browns' new president, one of Reid's mentors, and a celebrant in the Church of the West Coast Offense. Is it so outlandish to think that, if Heckert is hired, he might try to work a trade to bring Kolb with him to Cleveland? Or even McNabb?"

Very interesting.

After researching Kolbs performance during his last two starts , I gotta admit, I'm more than a little intrigued.

This season Kolb played in five games. He started two. According to NFL.com he had 62 completions out of 96 attempts for 741 yrds giving him a 64.4 passing percentage. He threw 4 td's and 3 int. He ended this season with a rating of 88.9

That's not bad at all.

Actually, it's a heck of a lot better than what we presently have on the roster.

Granted, it's only a rumor, but it is something to think about.

Go Browns!!!
